When we were brainstorming what Many Sparrows Sisterhood was going to be, my friend / co-founder Angela and I came up with three words that we wanted to define the feeling of our brand. These words took a long time to hone down, and in the end, they are what we feel are essential qualities for a healthy Christian sisterhood:
We chose safety because we want you to feel like you can bring your frustrations and hurts here. We want to share our struggles with you and help you bear the burdens of your life as well. A safe place is where you are valued and appreciated. It is a place where your feelings and opinions matter. Where we can disagree and still interact with love and respect. I need that place in my life, and I hope that you will find that with us.
Accountability was chosen because part of loving each other well is helping each other deal with our crap. I am so tired of Christians and their fake “how are you?” “good!” conversations. I have to combat my sin nature EVERY DAY. I can see right through your smoke screens. What we really need are friends who are willing to say, “how can I help you with this?” and really mean it. What we need to be is a place to facilitate those types of conversations.
When I think of inspiration, it is all about what makes my mind and heart come alive. Quotes, scripture, thoughts, challenges.. It doesn’t have to be anything big. Sometimes you see something that just makes your heart sing and draws your focus back to God. That is what we want to give you. Not because we are amazing and ultra-spiritual people, but because we are determined to let God work through our time and our stories. We want to be the avenue he uses to fill up your life with goodness.
For these first few months we are going to take a closer look at each of these words. We will be writing blog posts, sharing posts from other amazing authors, and giving you as many tools as we can to help you live a faithful life.
One of those tools is a Monday-Friday devotional journal/art prompt. This will give you some direction if you aren’t sure where to go with your devotions each day, and it also incorporates some creativity. Some of my favorite ways to meditate on scripture are writing and art, so I’m excited to share that with you.
Another tool is the Faith & Life Planner, which is designed to mesh your daily/weekly responsibilities with your study of scripture. I designed it because I desperately needed something to keep me on track and couldn’t find any planner that gave me room to study and draw. Because of the unique spread, your devotional thoughts are in front of you every time you look at your to-do list. It’s a great way to keep God’s word in the forefront of your mind all day long.
When you are looking for a Christian sisterhood, you are looking for a place to belong. For people to belong to. It is a different community than your family or many other groups of friends. Christian sisterhood is an intentional group, committed to loving each other and building each one up in her walk with God.
I am praying for you, friend. I don’t know your name or your face, but I know that God has been preparing your heart for awhile now. I know that you have been looking for a place to belong and people to call your tribe, and so I’m telling you, Many Sparrows is your tribe. We are a bunch of weirdos. We feel things deeply and we talk things out. I love us. And I can’t wait for you to join us.
PS. What does “joining us” look like? Like & follow us on social media, interact with our posts, ask us questions, book us to speak for your church or small group!
